What wattage rating for the resistor? Assume 1/4 watt (most common)

Considering that they list 1/2-2 Watt, I'd go with a 2 Watt unit for overall safety.

One should probably use something other than Cyanoacrylate/Methacrylate (Super Glue) to adhere the Heatsink to the Power Transistor.

Super Glue is a really good electrical insulator, but it's unfortunately a pretty good thermal one as well. While it "works", something

along the lines of one of the adhesives from Artic Silver ( if you're going to glue it instead of using machine

screw attachment means. They offer two different thermal epoxies, one ceramic filled, one silver filled. This stuff is all over the 'net

and if you've got a Fry's or similar at your disposal, it's only $8 for the Artic Alumina adhesive off their shelves- it's a _much_ better

thermal conductor while being an excellent insulator. I'm planning on obtaining either adhesive as I can obtain it for my reproduction of

the SG motor. Other options would be using a thermal adhesive pad for gluing aluminum or copper heatsinks onto PC motherboard chipsets.

Ideally, though, if you can get a proper TO-3 heatsink and mount it the way it's intended to be mounted, you're better off.

Great Site, Simple Plans

I have wanted to work with similar circuits I have come upon, and they all seemed terribly complicated...or to be b.s.


Oh, how does one locate a wheel with a non-magnetic hub? Most bike wheels I have seen were made of steel.


My hub and spokes are steel, and my wheel works just fine. Rim is aluminum/titanium? SilverThunder 09:42, 16 Oct 2004 (EDT)
