The first layout is sometimes referred to as a 'MEG.' In fact, Joe Flynn's patent has priority on the design, layout, and concept. The schematics are very clear.

It would be interesting to model these motors in magnetic flux software, and even more so to build them. While Joe Flynn has long since done this, the information is not available to the public domain.
