A Wiki Counterpart of Pure Energy Systems's Peer Review Encyclopedia

PeerPedia is the wiki process of subjecting a scholarly work or set of ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the field (known "wiki refereeing"). At PESWiki, you can suggest papers to be peer reviewed, recommend reviewers, and recommend the procedures for peer review including primers for authors for appropriate paper content and format. It is a online access framework to digital scholarly material and peer-reviewed research papers, extending to other digital content that authors wish to make available to all users online.

The wiki peer review process aims to make authors meet the standards of their discipline, and of science in general. In the case of included articles, the PESWiki editors will pass the articles that are accepted for publication at a division of

The PeerPedia editors are ultimately responsible for the quality and selection of articles chosen to be published. The authors are always responsible for the content of each article. PeerPedia editors do revise and correct spelling, grammar and formatting (done by PeerPedia "Copy Editors") and controls the quality of the process.

PeerPedia editors can overview and distribute an author's work or ideas to researchers or scholars who are experts in the field (known as "referees" or "reviewers"). Referees' evaluations usually include an explicit recommendation of what to do with the article. Most recommendations are along the lines of the following:

to unconditionally accept the manuscript or proposal,

to accept it in the event that its authors improve it in certain ways,

to reject it, but encourage revision and invite resubmission,

to reject it outright.

During this process, the role of the referees is advisory, and the PESWiki editors are under no formal obligation to accept the opinions of the referees.

PeerPedia's review process is quick and takes a short time for a submitted paper to appear in "print". In addition, PeerPedia opens the ability to publish and free the process from the control by elites and personal jealousy. The PeerPedia review process also allows dissent against "mainstream" theories. Reviewers are urged to not be especially critical of conclusions that contradict their own views, nor lenient towards those that accord with them.

Remember, we also offer a free-for-all encyclopedia, which we call PowerPedia. That is a community-built and community-edited encyclopedia of free energy technology topics. PeerPedia, on the other hand, will be an academically rigorous encyclopedia that will only feature entries that have passed a peer review process. It will be a standard of sorts for the PowerPedia counter-part, which may tend to be less rigorous, though it is conceivable that PowerPedia will have many outstanding topic presentations.

Nature editors start online peer review - Editors of the prestigious scientific journal Nature have reportedly embarked on an experiment of their own: adding an online peer review process. (PhysOrg Sept. 14, 2006)

This sounds like a good idea and an improvement over the old tradition. In the old tradition, a reviewer could "hide in the bushes" and be a hidden sniper on your paper, being inaccessible and also anonymous to all but the editorial staff monitoring the review. Now, an open forum lets all see each and every participant in the open light of the Internet. Several cycles of rebuttal can be handled that the old system could not. Nay-saying reviewers now have to work harder to kill a paper this is good news for researchers who do controversial work. Some of the hidden politics of the old system will be exposed and expunged.

After discussion is closed, the author can rewrite the article, incorporating the comments given, then submit for official publication in the journal. This second phase of refereeing is private, and given a mere "pass"/"fail" by the reviewers, and usually happens in about a month.

The editors of Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics explain their journal’s approach - similar to ETAI. Discussion phase is 8 weeks.
