An Open Source Project
An inventor, "FM", who requests for now that his name be kept anonymous, has been working on various free energy devices over the years. This present Directory:Magnet Motors design is one he has offered to the world in an open source project. He calls it a "toy" because it is small and puts out only a negligable amount of energy. It is intended as a proof of concept to spur the inventiveness of the wider community, hopefully resulting in more robust and significant versions that could be used for practical power generation. Presently, his work is focused in different research.
Prior to conveying the video, FM wrote: "Yes this little toy runs -- not with a great rotational speed but for a long time ([when] the roller bearing is closest to end [of its] life). [It] only stops when more lubrication is needed." (July 4, 2009)
Until the design is more widely replicated and thus made unstoppable by adversarial elements, FM presently requests that those who participate in the project sign a private agreement. (See
There was an error working with the wiki: Code section below to request form.) At that point, he then conveys a copy of his plans for this device.
: "I made my initial contacts with people that I consider relevant and with necessary comprehension to support this system. I don't want to expend my time replying to unbelievers. I don't need absolute believers, only people with the ability to replicate and disseminate this tech model." -- FM, July 5, 2009
We at recommend that any commercial versions of this device, whether in the form of plans, translations, kits, or finished units remit to FM Concepts a royalty of at least 3%.
Status : As of March 27, 2010, there have been no known successful replications that we know of (achieving torque from magnets alone). After commencing this project, the inventor got distracted and didn't follow up to help the many people trying to replicate. On Sept. 30, 2009, he sent out a message saying that he was victim of several suspicious attacks on his electronic content as well as a physical robbery. He concluded: "These acts don’t make me [want] to stop, but in reverse increase my motivation to continue my work in my Free Energy systems because I have the proof that this work[s]!"
This PESWiki page is being made in cooperation with the inventor.

He shows the rotor, added to a nylon stator, and the rotor appears to gradually accelerate. He then stops it, and spins it again in the same direction, and it appears to accelerate again the second time.

I timed the first ten revolutions beginning at 0:15 seconds in the video as spinning at 105 rpm. Then, beginning at 0:59 seconds, the next set of ten revolutions I timed at 146.5 rpm -- just before he stopped it then started it again at 1:20 seconds, at which point I clocked the first ten revolutions at 108 rpm. Then, just before the end when he stopped it, starting at 1:55 seconds in the video, I clocked the next ten rotations at 168 rpm. Whatever is causing the rotation, the video shows clear acceleration in both instances.
Here's some analysis done by Lightrider on July 5, 2009 also showing acceleration

Note that three magnets are attached magnetically, loosely, to one of the rotor magnets, just for size comparison, not relating to function.
From FM, July 4, 2009
Rotor: diam. 70mm thickness 5mm material: non-magnetic stainless steel (other non magnetic materials can be used)
16 Magnets: diam. 8mm length 20mm polarization through length.
Stator: diam. 70mm thickness 40mm material: nylon
Centre of magnets placed at 27,5 mm from rotor and stator centres.
Gap between rotor and stator: 35mm.
For variations the deflection angle is not needed [to be precise].
From FM, July 4, 2009
To better understand, try first to actuate the rotor with only one magnet in repulsion by hand. After this, try to displace the actuator magnet away from rotor to surpass the magnetic gate and return to face to face in ramp. You see the attraction of the other side of rotor’s magnets when you displace away the actuator. In the middle of magnets, the force field is closest to neutral. After try to make measurements in the required displacement to surpass the magnetic gate. A lot of patience is required to make the correct evolution in the deflected angle, step by step, until achieve the correct progressive deflection.
The key is: convert the repulsion in magnetic gate into attraction (great angle), decrease the attraction when the magnetic field is diminished (small angle), and restart the repulsion again in the ramp.

Note that in this replication (on left), the tallest point of the magnets does not deflect inward as is shown in FM's photos and videos. This is resolved in his more recent jig (right), waiting for magnets.

Let him know if you are one who would like to take him up on this, as he may be freed up in the next couple of months to start doing this. (PESWiki November 20, 2010)
none this is an open source project
For now, the inventor wishes to remain anonymous.
Presently I do not expend the necessary time suporting OSP because practically I do not have free time. I should programm my life to make the necessary support in this OSP after September o October.
I have notices from a few smarter guys, he brings more improvements in this system. Probably may be useful too.
General people only wants build this and do not think in line to disseminate better the concept, it's an erroneous way to start, and they do not look at variations where is the key of this technology.

FM approaches about open sourcing this technology. The plans begin to be made available to a few people who sign the agreement document.
FM first contacted to notify of an all-magnet motor. He did not respond at that time to a follow-up question as to whether the design had been built into a working prototype or not.
There was an error working with the wiki: Code> OS:Magnet Motor by FM Concepts - On the 4th of July, inventor, F.M., supplied photos and a video showing his all-magnet motor accelerating and he gave permission for us to post a page about this open source project. He's hoping for a lot of replications by others, followed by characterization, improvement, optimization, and commercialization. (PESWiki July 5, 2009)

This reminds me of the TOMI - theory of magnetic instability - that made the rounds of the internet (more than) a decade ago. One description of TOMI, which is based on cylindric magnets that keep rolling between rows of other magnets, can be found here: http://keelynet.com/energy/tomibild.htm
TOMI was conceived as a linear track, while this is configured to rotate, but using a similar principle of magnet spacing.
Note: FM often works out of the city where it’s impossible to establish contact because the place is not covered by any type of communications. So interims of 1-2 weeks can be expected even on crucial emails.
