AP Writer from New York flying to Italy
by Joe Shea

OCTOBER 27, 2011, 5:11am -- One has to ask, when we're one day away from what Forbes.com, Wired.com and Network World have called one of the most momentous days in world history - the demonstration of a 1,000,000-watt cold fusion reactor that can eliminate oil as a source of fuel forevermore - why major media like CNN, CBS, NBC, Fox and the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Washington Post have completely missed or spiked the news?
Even though people ranging from NASA Chief Scientist Dennis Bushnell, Nobel Physics Laureate Brian Josephson and the chairman of the energy committee of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences - who helps pick the Nobel Prize winner - have endorsed it, the E Catalyzer of Italian scientist Andrea Rossi that will be turned on for its 11th and final public demonstration - for fellow scientists, journalists and a customer, described as a major industrial organization - who's coming at the University of Bologna Friday is still unknown to the American public.
In a word: the Big Oil behemoth that stands astride the world of energy has forbade it, and none dare brook its rage. Even the energy subcommittee staff of Rep. Henry Waxman had never even heard of the device, much less of the test, but top NASA scientists and engineers along with famed U. of Illinois Prof. George Miley, have studied it under a deep veil of unwanted secrecy - and Miley says he has replicated it at the prestigious Urbana-Champaign campus, site of one of the world's most powerful computers.
Yet on Friday, when the supposed vital news organs of the planet are elsewhere, the American public may still be in the dark. (For more, see "TOP SECRET: ROSSI COLD FUSION DEVICE TOPIC OF NASA CHAT" on Oct. 21, below)
Update: I just got an update from a friend in Europe, and it's kind of a neat story. Noting that no one in the major media seemed to be covering this, about 3AM this morning I called the AP in New York. The national desk put me on the line to Europe, and the guy that answered the phone was an Albanian friend who'd visited me in Hollywood, Calif., back in 2001. He called AP's Rome bureau and alerted them to the story. They called New York. The upshot? The AP is flying their Science writer from New York to Italy to cover it tomorrow! One of those amazing coincidences that tell you there's a God out there, watching every day - and that's why he created friends.

Off topic. While in Italy, my wife and I have been taking in a few sights, while letting the jet lag pass. Here are a few family videos we shot. You won't hurt my feelings if you pass on these and wait for the Rossi device shots (if he'll let me take some. He said he will only be allowing his authorized people to take pictures and shoot videos but maybe later I can shoot something?) [Also, these are on my personal YouTube account, so no need to subscribe. I'll be posting any Rossi videos to http://www.youtube.com/user/PESNetwork which is where you'll want to subscribe.]
First Ride on Bullet Train in Italy, at 2x Highway Speed - I realize most of you have probably been on a bullet train before. This was a first for me, coming from Milan to Bologna. It was cool to see the cars and trucks on the freeway next to us look like they were parked along the side of the road, we were zipping along so fast. I later found out we were traveling at 250 kpm, or 155 mph. The trip from Milan to Bologna took just an hour.
Bologna, Oct. 26, 2011 - Remember, I'm shooting this video for my kids hence the first thing is noting the super fancy McDonalds with a wide spiral staircase followed by a Mr. Bean poster.
Venice, Oct. 27, 2011 - Remember, I'm shooting for my kids, hence the emphasis on "the roads made of water".

I've been asked to disclose the sponsors of my trip to Italy.
1) Farlie Paynter, a friend from Canada, who is interested in helping promote leading edge technologies, covered my flight and hotel costs.
2) Mike Spitzauer, CEO of Directory:Green Power Inc's NanoDiesel:Catalytic Pressureless Depolymerization (Oiling) (GPI), the Waste-to-Diesel Fuel company in Pasco, Washington sponsored my wife's air fare, so she could travel with me (and force me to actually do some touring while I'm here). She doesn't want a repeat of my trip to Costa Rica, where I spent the whole time working in my hotel room while not in meetings. Mike is a strong supporter, not just of clean energy, but of family relations. Great things are happening at GPI as well.

Dear RockEye:
Thank you: now it’s 4 p.m. of the 27th, and we are finishing the cosmetics of the plant. I think tomorrow we will make, with the help of God, a good job. My work, basically, is finished. Within one hour the Consultants of the Customer will arrive to start the check of all the parts of the plant and prepare all their stuff for the test of tomorrow. Until some hour ago I felt a strong pressure, now, at the eve of the battle, as usual, I am recovering all my coldness and calm. We are ready.
Warm Regards,
A.R.

Dear Franco Morici:
Good Sunday also to you, while I write this comment we are testing the 1 MW plant, which is working well so far. I am very sorry of the very restricted attendance, due to the particular kind of our Customer, but 'during the test [on Oct. 28], on this blog, we will transmit the main data of the test every hour, while at midnight we will publish the full report and a video.' The direct transmission is not possible because the officers of the Customer want not to be videotaped.
Warm Regards,

HUMOR > End of World Nigh, CF Demo Could Be Postponed - Mark Gibbs, who wrote the Forbes piece below, pokes fun at the prediction that the world will end on October 21. He uses it as an excuse to put in another mention of the upcoming October 28 test. (Forbes Oct. 19, 2011)
Hello Cheap Energy, Hello Brave New World - If you’ve missed the recent brouhaha over the E-Cat, you’re missing out on a three ring circus over a technology that will either change everything or change nothing because what is promised is, in theory, power too cheap to be worth metering. ...The E-Cat will be demonstrated on the 28th of this month and I, for one, will be watching with great interest and enormous hope because if Rossi’s E-Cat system works, it will be goodbye recession and hello, brave new world.
