Collection of technology resources relating to the challenge that Al Gore gave on July 17, 2008 to the United States of America to produce 100% of its electricity from renewable sources within ten years.
and the New Energy Congress (NEC) are involved in preparing a 10-Year Plan to show how such a thing could be accomplished.
This page will index our documentation as it is made ready.
On Sept. 3, 2008, the NEC sent a proposal to WeCanSolveIt.org to receive funding to identify the most plausible technologies that can enable the U.S. to achieve the objective of 100% renewable electricity within 10 years.
Proposal Excerpt : "Currently, on the WeCanSolveIt.org website, there is no presentation of a plan elaborating what technologies could be put to use to meet the 10-year objective. The NEC can be of assistance in this regard, being uniquely suited to present such a proposal. No other organization has a mission to review the most promising renewable energy technologies worldwide and to rank them in a publicly accessible listing. Composing first an overview (Phase I), followed by a detailed plan (Phase II), with continuous updating throughout the implementation of the plan (Phase III) to accomplish the 10-year objective in the United States is well within the ability of the Congress."

Congress:Top 100 Technologies -- RD:  Directory:Geothermal > Directory:Raser Technologies - Geothermal and Waste Heat Harvesting >Raser is Rapidly Deploying Cost-Effective Geothermal Power - Raser could cost-effectively deploy their technology to harness enough geothermal energy to provide 10% or more of the U.S. electrical demand. This same technology by Raser can be used to harvest waste heat from power plants, whether nuclear, natural gas, coal, or even solar. The left-over, low-grade heat will work just fine to drive the United Technologies Corporation generators manufactured for Raser. This otherwise unused source of energy could probably answer for yet another five percent of the U.S. energy portfolio. (PESN Sept. 4, 2008)
: "Biomass derived coal, off-shore wind, ocean energy (wave, current, tidal), Integrated Solar, Combined Cycle Biomass Gasification, high efficiency power distribution, waste heat recovery, Silicon PV, Run-Of-River Turbines. Poplar wood can produce 2000 gallons of fuel per acre. Aquatic energy does this with algae today. If we converted the 45 million acres of biofuel crops to algae and poplar we would not need foreign oil." -- Congress:Former Member:Daniel Bowers (Sept. 9, 2008)

Gore Shoots For Not One, But Ten Moons - Al Gore's widely publicised plan to move America to 100% renewable power in ten years is one of the boldest ploys by a politician - or quasi politician - in years. Even normally hostile commentators have taken the idea fairly seriously, which shows that the world has moved a long way in a few years or even just a few months. There is no denying that moving from a largely fossil-fuel based electricity generating system to all renewables is an astoundingly difficult physical and political task. In fact 90% of all US power comes from coal, natural gas, and oil (in that order). (Post Carbon Institute July 22, 2008)
A Response to Gore's Call for 100 Percent Renewable Power - Post Carbon Institute thanks Al Gore for so clearly and persuasively articulating the most urgent action needed to safeguard America’s future, and that of the entire world in his speech on July 17, 2008. As the name of our organization indicates, we believe that our highest collective priority must be to get off fossil fuels fast. (Post Carbon Institute July 22, 2008)
