Quiet, Affordable Wind Energy

Arthur O'Connor of Australia has international patents on a wind turbine design that is very quiet, can operate a low speeds while tolerating high wind speeds, with a price tag that makes energy generation comparable to grid energy cost for residential and commercial applications.

The 1m turbine can generate an average of 5 to 6 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy per day. Price range of $8,000 to $9,000.

The 5m turbine can generate approximately 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy per day.

(Based on calculation of approx. 6 hours per day of effective operating time, which is not guaranteed. Power generation is dependent on external factors including but not limited to prevailing wind conditions.)

Independent Testing

The O'Connor Hush Turbine has been wind tunnel tested at RMIT University School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. September 2005.

Testing results announced for a revised turbine unit (wind tunnel tested in July 2006 by RMIT University) utilising a "maximiser" to vary the rotational speed of the turbine showed higher power output (0.915 kW for the 1m model at 15m/s) (Ref)

Hume City Council is about to begin a 12-month trial (23 August 2006) of the turbine at its Sunbury administration office. One device will measure energy production and fluctuations, and another will monitor wind speed, direction and temperature. (Ref)

Inventor: Arthur O'Connor

O'Connor's passion for wind energy ignited in the 1980s when he invested in a turbine project that eventually folded. He later acquired the patents for the turbines and began refining the design. He has been fine-tuning the hush turbine design for 23 years.

O'Connor sold his business as a funeral director last year (2005) to pursue this project full-time.
