'Susan M. Carter's Replication of John Bedini's "Directory:Bedini SG"'

most recent first

Nov 8, 2004

I took my school girl to John's shop and he told me that the magnets were probably ok as they were but that I needed to use larger than 9 volt batteries with such a large wheel and that I needed to shorten up the wires coming from my diodes and resistors. He said making the circuit as compact as possible would help the performance. He also said that larger wires between the batteries might help as I start using 3 or 4 batteries on the back end.

Susan, Great work, add some more magnets to the wheel. Lets get more power out of the motor effect. -- John Bedini (from talk page)

Had a lot of fun testing it with small batteries and seeing how long it would run and how fast. I plan on hooking car batteries to it in the next few days.

Oct. 12, 2004

8:53 pm began taking data

8:45 pm repaired soders etc from demo at pre-school. It was very hands on. :)

During demo, 9V batteries were getting 'very hot'. Finally disconnected them.

10:20 am gave demo of motor to pre-school group for which Susan is a volunteer. Kids loved it.

09:55 am got motor running again. Aligator clip to emittor post was shorting to body of transistor.

03:05 am motor not running. Switching batteries didn't help. Volt meter not available. Need to buy new batteries to run tests with. It seems that it runs about an hour to an hour and a half on a nine volt battery. Earlier microwave incident may just have been because of battery and nothing to do with oven. But the neon bulb was affected, haven't tested the transistor yet.

12:32 am motor quit running. Volt meter not available. Switched batteries and it picked up speed quickly.

Oct. 11, 2004

9:30 pm went to bed with motor running even faster than it had when Sterling counted it this afternoon. Impossible to count visually.

~8:00 pm Wouldn't work, found a wire that had broken off and the end wasn't scraped that had been sodered. Fixed it and it worked fine. It charged a nine volt battery 2 volts higher in a half hour.

~5:00 pm Prettified and sodered. Husband Ren couldn't stand not doing anything and did a soder to show Susan a better technique.

~1:50 pm Observation about Microwave

~1:00 pm MDT, completed the device and achieved rotation.

Oct. 10, 2004

Would have gotten it running a day earlier if she had scraped off the covering better from the magnet wire for her connections.

Video and Photos

Newly built

Photo taken of Susan's motor/circuit, Oct. 11, 2004, after she first got it working. Doesn't get much more simple than this. She has not yet hooked up the output to a battery to receive the charge. The flickering neon bulb is taking the energy. She is powering the circuit with a 9-volt battery. She will be soldering the connections, and decorating it to make it pretty.

Note the toothpick and tin foil spacers for the wheel elevation.

Show and Tell

Susan Carter shows the Bedini "School Girl" (simplified) motor/circuit that she built to a group of preschoolers, Oct. 5, 2004.

Note paint, sequins, glitter. Motor is running on 9V battery.

Essentially used the components specified in the Directory:Bedini SG:Materials page.
