Three types of tidal power
Subject to consensus, I would like to be allowed to edit into the page the three types of tidal power, sometimes called tidal energy (no pun intended).
The first and arugbaly the most well known, though there apears to be only three in the world, is the barrage, tidal fence or tidal dam. This type uses the rise and fall of the tide to produce a height differential called in engineering terms a "head". The greater the head or height of water captured by the barrage the more the energy that can be produced.
The second resembles a windmill (a propeller on a stick) and operates like a windmill, except that it is placed underwater where the water current flows thus producing energy.
The third more recent type is the shrouded turbine. This type uses a shroud sometimes called a duct or venturi to increase the flow across the turbine allowing the turbine to operate more efficiently.
A full description of the various types may well be left to the entities to best explain. But this may help to simply the the description and help with understanding and classification of the various technologies. What does everyone think? TidalEnergy 06:40, 25 Jan 2008 (EST)
Help with graphics
Could someone skilled in the art assist with three good graphics to go with the introduction to help explain the different types of systems.
As far as possible it should be a tidal barrage system, an open flow turbien and a shrouded turbine.
I tried several times and only succeeded in stuffing up. TidalEnergy 07:05, 25 Jan 2008 (EST)
