3 Kilowatts?

AllAfrica article says the 10 inch diameter systems produces up to 3 kilowatts (did the reporter hear right?).

10 inch windmill couldn't produce 3 kW

There is no way to get 3 KILOWATTS from a 10 inch diameter windmill. Maybe in a hurricane. ;-) Perhaps they claim 3 kilowatt hours in a day, if there is enough wind all day long.

I would have to look up the details on how much power is available from wind, but I'm sure there are websites that can help you estimate the size of wind turbine needed to get power depending on average wind speed.

Why are typical wind turbines a few FEET or a meter or more diameter if 10 inches or 25 centimeters could produce 3 KW?

Maybe 10 inches referred to generator

NOTE: The original article mentions the weight of 15 to 25 kilograms THEN someone inserted 33 to 55 pounds.

Then it states the diameter is "10 inches". We need to see the ORIGINAL UNEDITED story with the original metric units. Perhaps the "10 inch" diameter" refers to size of the GENERATOR, not the wind turbine blades. Or there was a conversion error from metric to english units.

To get useful power from a wind turbine requires more then 25 cm or 0.25 meters for the blades, more like a meter diameter. (39.37 inches)
