THE McCARTHY MANOUVER - SELLING THE IMPOSSIBLE - by TOM SMITH.

"The Heimlich Manouver is an emergency technique for preventing suffocation when a person's airway (windpipe) becomes blocked by a piece of food or other object. The required actions may need to be carried out several times to dislodge the blockage. If this fails then an emergency tracheotomy (cutting directly into the windpipe) may need to be performed."

Talking with my sidekick recently, we being part way into an excellent bottle of Monkey's Shoulder, our talk veered to a well worn path, shared interest in the world of OU. We considered some of the larger than life characters who have become celebrities in the milieu - either for the feats they achieved or the promises (and hearts) they broke. Sooner or later it was inevitable that the name of the CEO of Steorn - Sean McCarthy - would surface and sure enough, 2/5 down the bottle, it did.

In conversation with Sean - in his favourite Dublin watering hole sometime (I forget exactly) in 2011 - he said to me "Tom, you can't sell overunity devices -we have proved that". And this is undoubtedly true -even though at that time they didn't eexactly have one to sell. If you don't believe OU is a hard-to-impossible sell go stand on Times Square and try selling $20 bills for $5 apiece. But be careful, you are more likely to get arrested for vagrancy and unlawful vending than you are to make a sale. Try giving them away for nothing and there might be a riot- but not necessarily a happy one.
