Magnet Motors

Category > Mylow

CLaNZeR's replication of Mylow's Magnet Motor as part of the open source project.

Status
Planning to build stator assembly March 29. Stator magnet is not a very close match to the one used by Mylow, but it may work.

Part 3: Stator Magnet Up Against Rotor Mangets

(4:26 minutes)

  • Clanzers Mylow HJ Replication Part3 - Clanzers first impressions of the Stator magnet up against the Disk. In the Video Clanzer states the space between the sets of 3 as a TWO space, This should be THREE space but he could not be bothered to shoot the Video again! (YouTube; March 29, 2009)

Part 2: Disc Wind-down with Rotor Magnets Attached

(8:41 minutes)

  • Clanzers Mylow HJ Replication Part 2 - Wind-down takes 7.5 minutes from 100 rpm, which shows that the extra weight helps with the flywheel effect at lower rpms. (YouTube; March 29, 2009)

Part 1: Aluminum Disc Wind-down Time

(9:57 minutes)

  • Clanzers Mylow HJ Replication Part 1 - CLaNZeR posts a baseline video showing the wind-down time of just the aluminum disk, without any magnets affixed, from 200 RPM.(YouTube; March 28, 2009)

After glueing magnets on and ripping them off a few times. This is the combination that I decided on.

Have used two bearings to make it more stable, but they are not that loose but will do the Job.

Part number M4144ANK at £0.90 each

You can now see how my layout fits with the 8mm wide Rotor magnets I have.

The stators are E824 the closest I could get to Mylow's at the time

The Rotor I got a CNC shop in UK to do for me.

I did a quick WindDown from 100 RPM which came out at around 7.5 Minutes. The extra weight of the Rotor magnets make a big difference at lower revs.

I wanted to make the Stator Arm out of Aluminium and thought I had some 20mm Box section in the workshop, but seems I have used that for something else. So for now I used some extruded Aluminium I had hanging around.

Posted a video showing my first impressions of the Stator magnet up against the disk.

Aluminium Disk has arrived , so off to get it mounted

March 27, 2009

Magnets turned up. The Channel is not as deep as Mylow's ones and not as wide, but nearest I could get for now. The two test stator magnets have N and S poles on the flat edges
