Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ page for the Mylow Magnet Motor Replication Project.
Q. Is Mylow's motor a real free energy device?
No, it was proved to be a hoax. His motor was driven by a fish line. []
Q. How long has Mylow's motor continuously run?
The answer to this has varied. In one of the latest videos it was stated as "more than 20 hours" although 26-27 hours have also been quoted. On April 2, 2009 Mylow completed a 18 hour continuous run at ~140 RPM. See below "latest configuration."
Q. What is Mylow's latest configuration?
Mylow is now using a stock Alnico HS811N magnet from Allmagnetics.com [] The gap to the rotor magnets is about 1.5 inches.
Q. Why does the motor eventually stop?
The motor is stopping because the stator magnet is slowing demagnetizing and losing field strength.
Q. Why is the stator magnet losing its field strength?
There are several theories right now but at this point no one knows for sure.
Q. How was the original horseshoe stator magnet remagnetized? What exactly was the process?
We are working on getting a clear answer to this. It may not be important now as Mylow has been able to use a stock HS811N Alnico magnet.
Q. What type aluminum is the rotor disk made of?
To date it has been described as coming from a 4' X 8' sheet of aircraft aluminum. Based on the Mylow May 2008 video (see Latest Developments March 25, 2009) and the very shiny mirror-like finish, it appears to be ALCLAD 2024-T3. On www.airpartsinc.com they state, "2024-T3 This is the most common of the high-strength alloys. Aircraft quality. 2024 T3 aluminum sheet is thought of as the aircraft alloy because of it's strength. It has excellent fatigure resistance. Welding is generally not recommended. Typical uses for 2024-T3 ALCLAD aluminum sheet are aircraft skins, cowls, aircraft structures, and also for RV repair and restoration like Airstreams because of its shiny finish (2024T3 ALCAD)
Q. Are kits for the replication available yet?
No. Plans and kits will be made available as soon as Mylow's motor has been successfully replicated.
