Motor Construction
As prepared by Tim Harwood, March, 2006.
Rotor
With the help of some epoxy glue, 2 free internet CDs become a rotor. Note, the magnets should be no wider than 3/4".
I used wood (non conductive) to hold the rotor in place.
Subsequently, old hard drive rotors emerged as the favorite mounting platform for the rotor, because they were cheap, stable, and low friction.
Stators
The materials are very simple. Mild steel nail, tap washers, nail head covers, scissors, tape, enamelled wire.
Wind the nail - about 2" deep.
Done. Just wind tape over the outside of the bare enamelled wire to finish.
