GPS-enabled phones and cameras store and post photo location identification - All you have to do is right click on such an image, and one option enables you to get the GPS coordinates of where the camera was at the time the photo was shot. This becomes a serious privacy and security issue to those who are unaware of this capability and are uploading such photos to public websites such as Facebook. (ABC; February 14, 2011)

Torque vectoring gears for smaller, more efficient wind turbines - Torque vectoring has been used in automobile differentials, allowing the amount of power sent to each wheel to be varied. Scientists at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen have now adapted this technology to wind turbines to eliminate the need for converting the alternating current produced by the turbines into direct current and back again before it is fed into the grid. (GizMag; February 24, 2011)
  • Oil > Subsidies >
Ask World Bank to stop funding dirty fuel projects - Global financial institutions such as the World Bank provide subsidies to oil, gas and coal companies. Your tax dollars may have helped the World Bank spend more than $6 billion last year on oil, gas and coal projects in developing countries. A fraction of that money could have put any one of many New Energy projects into the marketplace. (Changing Power; February 24, 2011)

Cold Fusion: It May Not Be Madness - A handful of intrepid scientists are reigniting interest in work that was dismissed as junk science more than 20 years ago, claiming to have found a way to create more energy from less. The most recent excitement was generated by Italians Sergio Focardi and Andrea Rossi, who demonstrated a device that turned 400 watts of heat power into 12,400 watts. EXCELLENT >> Cold Fusion: 18 hour test excludes combustion - [Additional details and corrections on the 18-hour test we reported on yesterday.] “In my opinion, all chemical sources are now excluded,” physicist Giuseppe Levi told Ny Teknik. "At night we did a measurement and the device then worked very stable and produced 20 kilowatts." He had a peek inside the black box to see there were no batteries. (NyTeknik; February 23, 2011)
  • Oil > Ecological Impact > Gulf Oil Disaster > Poisonous >
Scientist Confirms Gulf "Oil Rain" Is Real - Leifer thinks this oil rain is an unprecedented oil spill phenomenon - a combination of the Gulf's high humidity and the columns of thick smoke from burning oil. "...They showed up as if they had almost a millimeter of oil in the cloud.. and ... when they reach land - would in fact rain oil. Air sampling that was conducted both on a boat and by NOAA in the atmosphere showed that this plume contained numerous toxic components." (BeforeItsNews; February 1, 2011)

  • Nuclear > Fusion >
The Audacity of General Fusion - After months of scouring nuclear literature, British Columbia inventor, Doug Richardson came across a technology called magnetized target fusion that had been abandoned in the 1970s. But more had been learned since about handling plasma, and electronic systems for controlling the experiment had advanced. Coming to the conclusion he could make net gain happen this time by changing the ratio of pressure and duration, he incorporated General Fusion in 2002. (BC Business Online; February 7, 2011)

Magnetic polar shifts causing massive global superstorms - An unstoppable magnetic pole shift that has sped up and is causing life-threatening havoc with the world's weather. What drives planetary weather patterns is the climate and what drives the climate is the sun's magnetosphere and its electromagnetic interaction with a planet's own magnetic field. When the field shifts, when it fluctuates, when it goes into flux and begins to become unstable anything can happen. (Helium; February `4, 2011)
