Says that by putting three simple grooves going into the combustion chamber that mileage can be increased by as much as 50%, through the properly-placed turbulence. (Canvas.be; Nov. 2, 2009) (See our updated feature page.)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Hydroxy >
HH2 hydrogen technology purports to turn any gas-guzzler into a hybrid - California-based HydroLectricPower claims its HH2 system ("not HHO") can turn just about any fossil-fuel-powered vehicle into an eco-friendly hybrid with the installation of a book-sized device that uses energy from the vehicle's 12-Volt battery to extract hydrogen and oxygen (separately) from distilled water, which are then blended with the existing fuel source to enhance fuel combustion inside the engine combustion chambers. (GizMag; Dec. 2, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Wind Resistance >
Europe Testing "Road Trains" to Cut Fuel Use - In the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) system up to 8 vehicles (cars, busses, trucks) would travel as one "train," linked by wireless sensors, cutting fuel use by 20%. The lead "train", driven by a professional, would enable the trailing vehicles' drivers to become "passengers", able to take their hands off the wheel -- and they could come and go as they please . (EcoGeek; Nov. 11, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Hydroxy >
Hydrogen power or just hot air? - Bill Jenner, a lifetime auto mechanic from Australia, claims to have reduced his fuel consumption by up to 75% by an on-board electrolysis unit that he put together from plans downloaded online. The unit ducts hydroxy gas (hydrogen-oxygen mixture) into the air intake of his vehicle catalyzing a more efficient burn of the fuel. (EchoNews au; Nov. 19, 2009)
  • Waste to Energy >
GM Working On Efficient, Shape-Changing, Memory Metal Engine - The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded GM with $2.7 million to develop a working prototype of a Shape Memory Alloy engine. In theory, this engine could recycle the waste heat and turn it into electrical energy, perhaps one day even replacing alternators and improving fuel efficiency. (Gas 2.0; Nov. 2, 2009)
  • Solar Thermal / Building / ZPE / Methane >
A few free energy developments in Romania - A Russian news agency reports on several interesting systems being developed, including an efficient solar water heating design, a composite building materials having strength and a high R value, a magnetic fertilizer, and a system that allegedly loads methane molecules with the vacuum zero point energy increasing the methane’s heating power by 40 percent. (Financiarul; Oct. 30, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Engines >
EcoMotors opoc™ engine design - The greater power density derived from this design provides a range of important attributes, including: lower weight, smaller size, lower material costs, lower friction, greater fuel efficiency, lower emissions, lower heat rejection. For a given power level, the opoc™ engine is 30-percent lighter, one-quarter the size, and achieves 50-percent better fuel economy compared with a state-of-the-art, conventional turbo-diesel engine. (Thanks Miroslav Karas; Sept. 21, 2009)
  • Transmissions >
Torotrak’s new generation transmission is good gear - The continuously variable transmissions and infinitely variable transmissions by the UK-based engineering company, Torotrak, utilize a traction drive ‘toroidal variator’, which incorporates smooth, saucer-shaped discs and circular rollers. This variator allows the transmission to deliver a stepless range of ratios to meet all driving conditions.. (GizMag; Sept. 3, 2009)
  • Hydroxy > Ronn Motors >
The Scorpion: Ronn Motor Company Hydrogen-Exotic - Here is the first production vehicle that will use the hydrogen boost technology in which an on-board electrolysis unit produces Brown’s gas which is then ducted into the air intake to effect a more efficient burn of the fuel, achieving 40 mpg in a muscle car. They call it the "H2GO hydrogen injection system". (Gas2; Aug. 18, 2009)
  • GEET >
GEET on Albuquerque TV; other updates - Paul Pantone presents the GEET reactor for local television news, KASA-13 (FOX), in Albuquerque, New Mexico U.S.A. during the TeslaTech conference. He demonstrates running an engine on Mountain Dew, pointing out that the beverage is turned to plasma, which is what the engine sees, not the beverage. (PESWiki; August 08, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > GEET >
Your Engine Can Do The Dew Too! - Wired magazine pokes fun at Paul Pantone's GEET Plasma Reactor. Take a moment to add your knowledge in the comments section, especially the many among you who have successfully replicated the GEET on your own vehicle. Help turn this coverage into a turning point for the many people who read this magazine. (Wired; August 6, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Tires >
New Tires Made of Oil from Orange Peels - Yokohama is now selling a model made with 80 percent non-petroleum material, substituting orange oil as the primary ingredient to make vulcanized rubber. It also helps consumers save money at the gas pump by improving fuel efficiency via a 20-percent reduction in rolling resistance. (Earth 911; July 9, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Scooters / H Injection >
Hydroxy Moped Project at University of Wisconsin-Madison - Some egineering students with faculty supervision undertook some testing of some already-efficient, 90 mpg Vespa scooters, adding an on-board electrolysis system, ducting the hydrogen into the air intake; and documented an additional 10% improvement in mileage, attributing it to catalyzing a "more complete combustion". (Perspective, UW-M; Spring 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Hydroxy or HHO >
Savings or scam? Some say contraption lowers gas use - Ozzie Freedom, real name Eyal Siman-Tov, who sells the Water4Gas ebook about hydroxy technology, has been charged with violating Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act with his alleged 'bogus' info. Others vouch for the technology. (Sierra Vista Herald, Arizona; Jun 22, 2009) [Comment: Scientists should stop looking at the hydroxy systems in terms of adding more fuel, and instead consider it as an exotic catalyst.]
  • Humor > Fuel Efficiency >
Smart Car's impact on cars of the future - See a gallary of what some of your favorite cars might look like if they were minaturized in the spirit of the Smart Car. Maybe you've already seen these, but I thought they were hillarious. Check out the Smorvette, Smaudi, Smamborghini, Smorsche (shown at right), Smerrari (Youtatech; June 25, 2009)
  • Fuel Efficiency > Hydrogen Injection >
Cleaner fuel through hydrogen innovation - Normally, hydrogen fuel generators use electricity to divide molecules. Go Go Green LLC uses a chemical reaction that uses less energy.
