Ford Edge

From PESWiki

The Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV under the Ford marque. The Edge is based on the Ford CD3 platform, originally launched on the Mazda 6 Sedan. This platform is also shared with the Lincoln MKX, Mazda CX-9 crossovers, the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and the Lincoln MKZ sedans. It jointly replaced the D3-based Freestyle as Ford's mid-size crossover SUV, despite having a similar MSRP.

The Edge made its public debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in January, with production starting in the fall of 2006 as a 2007 model, with the first ones reaching dealerships just before Christmas, 2006. The Edge (codename U387) is built at Ford's Oakville Assembly Complex in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. As a crossover vehicle, the Edge bridges the gap between minivans like the now discontinued Freestar, and truck-based sport utility vehicles like the Explorer. The Edge slots between the Escape and Taurus X in Ford's crossover SUV lineup. The Ford Edge is expected to compete with other SUVs in the entry mid-sized crossover segment, such as the Chevrolet Equinox and Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Edge and MKX are among the first vehicles to use Ford's new 3.5 L Duratec 35 V6 engine. This new engine produces 265 hp (196 kW) and 250 ft·lbf (339 N·m) and is mated to the new 6F six-speed automatic transmission, which was co-developed with General Motors. A hybrid version is expected for the 2010 model year.
