Draft:Home Page Black-out January 19, 2012
Imagine a World
Without Free Knowledge about Free Energy
For almost a decade, we have spent thousands of hours building the largest news and directory service in human history featuring breakthrough clean energy technologies. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet.
For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out the home page at PESWiki.
In support of the drive to run a 24-hour black-out on January 18, 2012, 12 pm to January 19, 12 pm MST, we are posting this page temporarily to illustrate the kinds of disruptions that are possible on a routine basis if SOPA passes.
SOPA was written by politicians who are clueless about how the Internet works and how the ripple effect could spread far and wide if certain sites and services are purposely or inadvertently shut down.
And seeing how PESWiki material is in defiance of tyranny, both as it relates to energy as well as some of the political underpinnings; it's not unlikely that we could become directly targeted by arbitrary bureaucrats who care nothing for the planet but only wish to carry out orders to suppress "enemies of the establishment."
Call your elected officials. e.g. via http://sopastrike.com
Tell them you are their constituent, and you oppose SOPA and PIPA.
SOPA and PIPA would put the burden on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Small sites won't have sufficient resources to defend themselves. Big media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for their foreign competitors, even if copyright isn't being infringed. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won't show up in major search engines. SOPA and PIPA would build a framework for future restrictions and suppression.
In a world in which politicians regulate the Internet based on the influence of big money, PESWiki — and sites like it — cannot survive.
Congress says it's trying to protect the rights of copyright owners, but the "cure" that SOPA and PIPA represent is worse than the disease. SOPA and PIPA are not the answer: they would fatally damage the free and open Internet. -- Wikipedia

I phoned Jason Chaffetz's office (my representative here in UT) to see what kind of response they got yesterday on SOPA. Their press office representative, John Hadlock, said they received 207 calls "against" and 0 "for". Their office opposes the legislation. He recommended http://KeepTheWebOpen.com where an alternative act is presented, which would not have the same negative consequences, while helping to prevent pirating.
Emily Bennion, Press Secretary of the Office of Senator Mike Lee (who also opposes the legislation), wrote: "It looks like we received 376 calls regarding PIPA/SOPA yesterday. All of the calls were against the legislation."
While I was at it, I made the acquaintance of the Energy guys from both Chaffetz' office and Senator Mike Lee's office, to keep them abreast of the exciting developments in the Free Energy sector. One of our Top 5 is in the Salt Lake City metro area (EEFG).
