XPower Saver by XEDIA Technologies Inc.

XPower Saver supplies reactive power locally at the load by the use of specially designed capacitors. Increases Power Factor closer to Unity resulting in better electrical efficiency and cooler motors.

The residential and commercial units are distributed via direct marketing, along with other products.

The residential product simply plugs into any wall socket in a home to condition power for the entire home.

"The Xpower device is a capacitor which does not materially affect or reduce power usage or the cost of electricity when used." (Statement posted on a couple of places on their site, probably mandated to them by some regulatory agency, which contradicts other statements made which allege that the unit reduces the amount of energy required.) Overview

All electricity is subject to surges from time to time, which result in spikes or parasitic peaks that can be damaging to your household equipment and appliances. These spikes simply consume electricity, resulting in overheating, which shortens the life of your appliances and wiring. In extreme cases electrical spikes can cause burns, blow outs and power cuts.

Features

  • Stabilizes the supply voltage
  • Improve power factor of electrical appliances
  • Surge and brown-out protection
  • Reduces electricity waste
  • Reduce waveform distortion and improve harmonies
  • One unit will work for the whole house circuit
  • Easy to use, maintenance free, no wiring required
  • ETL listed and safe
  • 6 month money back guarantee and 1 year limited warranty
  • Predicted lifespan of up to 7 years or more
  • The Xpower will work internationally on both 110/240y - 50/60 Htz electric systems
  • The Xpower will not act as a surge protector. It corrects parasitic spikes and surges on the electrical line but not high surges.
  • The Xpower will lower the High Frequency Pollution on the electrical lines of your home.

How It Works

Quoting from XediaDirect.com > Xpower Saver

The Xpower Saver reduces the amount of power drawn from the utility by storing otherwise lost electricity caused by the inductive motors in your home. Examples of inductive motors are Air Conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, pool pumps, vacuum cleaners, furnace blower motors, fans etc… These inductive loads account generally for 70% of an electric bill.

The Xpower Saver saves and stores wasted electricity and re-applies it back to your inductive loads, decreasing your demand from the public utility or renewable energy system. You’ve already paid for that electricity, why waste it when you can store it and reuse it again. This is called power factor optimization and in the case of solar energy systems would allow you to buy a smaller system saving thousands of dollars.

The XPower Saver improves the power factor by reducing the amount of reactive power that the load draws from the utility company. This is accomplished by supplying the reactive power locally at the load, by the use of specially designed capacitors. These advanced capacitors store the reactive power needed for the creation of the EMF within the inductive load.

In other words, it is said that inductive receivers (motors, transformers, etc.) consume reactive energy, while capacitive receivers produce reactive energy. Therefore the amount of reactive power purchased from the utility company by a power factor optimization has been greatly reduced, or eliminated.

Cost / Return on Investment

"An electric bill under $90 may not yield the savings in a certain amount of time that would justify a purchase of the Xpower. On electric bills from $90 -$200 one Xpower would be good and on bills higher than $200 two would be justifiable. There is a point at which the Xpower will lose it's efficiency so more Xpowers can be added to the electrical system." [3]

"Technically the Xpower will increase your electric bill around .80 cents a month and that is simply because there is a little LED light on the top of the unit." [4]

Is XPower Saver Legal/Legit?

Saving energy is actually a government policy. The XPower Saver is simple to use and there are no complicated instructions or installation.

The XPower Saver comes with a full 1 year limited warranty and a 6 month money back guarantee.

Independent Testing

"The technology is recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy"

Intertek Testing Services (CSA/UL)

The xpower is not UL listed but it is [www.Intertek.com ETL] listed. Intertek tests to UL standards. [5]. "XPower Saver has been tested and checked for compliance with UL safety standards by ETL." [6]

  • INTERTEK TESTING SERVICES NA LTD. - 6225 Kenway Drive, Mississauga Ont. L5T 2L3, Canada; Job No. 3131147; Issued: October 18, 2007. "A representative sample of the product covered by this report has been evaluated and found to comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Standard for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filters, General Instruction 3 CSA C22.2 No. 8-M1986, July 2000 (Reaffirmed 2004). Standard for Safety for Electromagnetic Interference Filters, UL 1283 Fifth Edition, Dated November 30, 2005 Revisions through and including July 31, 2007"

Analyzed at the University of Utah: FAILED

KUTV News in Utah had the Electrical Engineering Department at the Univesity of Utah evaulate this device. It was done as part of my Feedback Systems class to facilitate a real world device and testing proceedure. Three students and an instructor took it apart and evaluated it. They found it to be unable to meet the resutls discussed by the manufacturer and presented that the theory would only possibly work for a large business with an extensively changing load and it would still not be capable of being done by the current device. Here is the link to the guy who came to the U, I couldn't find it in his list of "let bill buy it" but it was done during the spring session 2006. http://kutv.com/consumer [See Google search record.] Arn Stolt at the U of U (Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering) is the Professor who was involved.
