Venturi motor company of Monaco has three models of electric vehicles.

The avant-garde Fetish is "the first electric sports car, limited edition (twenty-five priced at 297,000 Euros). On a more practical level, their "Eclectic" is the first production energy-autonomous vehicle in history (using solar and wind input topping the batteries during non-use). Their Astrolab is the first high-performance solar vehicle to be commercialised in the world.

Products

Eclectic

  • Venturi Eclectic (http://www.venturi.fr/index.php?article86) - Urban 3-seater electro-solar or wind vehicle is the first production energy-autonomous vehicle in history. Eclectic takes advantage of moments of immobilisation to store energy in its NiMH batteries. It offers a range up to 50 km at a speed of 50 km/hr and can also be recharged from the grid in 5 hours. Pre-production batch with increase in output and drop in price expected in 2007.

Astrolab

"The first high-performance solar vehicle to be commercialised in the world."

  • Venturi Astrolab (http://www.venturi.fr/index.php?article108) - 2-seater tandem electro-solar vehicle uses photovoltaic cells covered by a film of nano-prisms concentrating solar energy to recharge NiMH batteries. It has a range of 110 km and a top speed of 120 km/hr. Solar recharging provides a daily range of 18 km or it can be recharged from the grid in 5 hours. First delivery is scheduled for January 2008.

Fetish

297,000 euros; 4-month construction wait; 2 year guarantee; "hand-made and built by order in the Principality of Monaco for an exclusive and avant-garde clientele; limited to 25 buyers."

Is reminiscent of the Tesla Motors approach, except Tesla's vehicle has a lower price tag, and is not a limited edition.

In the News

  • Venturi Eclectic: Test Drive (http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4224791.html?series=19) - Taking a spin in an electric vehicle that’s self-sustained through its solar-panel roof and plug-in wind turbine is pretty amazing. The Eclectic is very comfortable and manageable as an urban get-around car. It is breezy, fun and actually quite exhilarating to drive. Like all electric cars, it’s very quiet and superbly smooth on the road. (Popular Mechanics; Oct. 3, 2007)
  • Venturi Eclectric Autonomous Electric Vehicle in Pre-Production (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/venturi_eclecti_1.php) - Presenting the world's first commercial solar-powered vehicle, Venturi is presently making 40 pre-production cars (cost expected to be Euro 24,000, scheduled to drop to Euro 15,000 in 2009, when they increase production). (TreeHugger; Jan. 15, 2007)

Practical?

On Jan. 22, 2007, New Energy Congress member, Sterling D. Allan wrote:

While Venturi should be applauded for building vehicles that integrate clean energy technology, it seems that they cater too much to appearances, and not enough to practicality. Where are the doors on the Eclectic? Only to be driven on sunny days, and not fast enough to kick up any dust? Not very safe. Definitely cute, but that's about the extent of it.
