WindFloat Provides Renewable Spinnoff Application from Oil Platform Tech

Renewable energy company, Principle Energy Inc., is presently focused on two areas: a floating platform for offshore wind, wave, and current harnessing; and an inflatable concentrated solar technology developed by Cool Earth Solar.

WindFloat, conceived by Marine Innovation & Technology and exclusivly licensed by Principle Power, is a floating foundation for offshore wind turbines with a simple, elegant and patented design. The innovative features of the WindFloat dampen wave and turbine motion, enabling wind turbines to be sited in previously inaccessible locations with superior wind resources. [1] Multiple project proposals are being submitted for pilot and utility-scale development. Because the WindFloat can be deployed far offshore, it gets around the "not in my backyard" (NIMBY) obstacle usually faced by offshore wind technologies.

Advantages

Quoting from http://www.principlepowerinc.com/technology/windfloat.php

There are three advantages to the WindFloat foundation: first, its stability provides negligible pitch and yaw; second, its design and size allow for onshore assembly; third, its shallow draft allows for site flexibility.

The WindFloat’s semi-submersible offshore floating foundation is fitted with patented horizontal water entrapment heave plates at the base of each column. The plates reduce the structure’s size and cost, while achieving excellent performance that is practically free from pitch and yaw in the offshore environment. In addition, WindFloat’s superior stability is augmented by an active ballast system.

The design and size of the WindFloat enables the overall structure to be assembled onshore and towed to its final location, significantly reducing construction costs and providing improved site flexibility.

Profiles

Company: Principle Energy Inc.

http://www.principlepowerinc.com/about/about.php

Principle Power, Inc. is a technology developer focused on the deep-water offshore wind energy market. Deep-water (depth greater than 50 meters) offshore wind installations have neither been viable nor feasible due to economic and technological limitations. Principle Power’s enabling product, the WindFloat, is a floating foundation for wind turbines which enables siting independent of water depth, thus exploiting the world’s highest capacity wind resources. Principle Power holds the worldwide exclusive license to the patented WindFloat technology.

Principle Power sells WindFloat foundations directly to project developers and municipal or investor owned utilities. The WindFloat foundation enables these end-users access to deep-water offshore wind resources and ease of delivery to high demand coastal load-centers. In addition, Principle Power provides design, and maintenance services to WindFloat-equipped power projects and can opportunistically license the technology when needed.

The breadth of experience, expertise, and proven track record of Principle Power’s management team are commensurate with the demands of a successful product and technology developer. Further, Principle Power’s personnel are strategically located within target markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal.

Principle Power is committed to developing deep-water offshore wind markets around the world. This commitment, together with financing, engineering, and product development expertise, results in a significant triple bottom line investment opportunity: attractive financial returns, clean energy generation and social responsibility.

Alla Weinstein, CEO

Alla founded AquaBuoy, which was later sold to Finavera. The AquaBuoy is of the Top 100 Clean Energy Technologies as ranked by the New Energy Congress.

Jon Bonanno, President

Jon Bonanno co-founded Principle Power for the purpose of applying his entrepreneurial, team-building and finance experience to making economically attractive renewable energy projects. His vision is that the portfolio of Principle Power will grow to multiple gigawatts of sustainable energy assets and make a difference in offsetting fossil fuel usage. He is currently serving at the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Principle Power.
