Synopsis
"My understanding is that this requires no input from a known energy source: no fuel, no sun, no wind. Doug says it doesn't violate the known laws of physics, but from what I can tell, it's in the ballpark of a QMoGen that will be introducing new chapters into existing science textbooks." -- Sterling
Important Update
"Hate to say it, but I am very thankful to Dustin for finding an issue with our black box that could have seriously affected the longevity of our power station. I will not sell our customers a product that is not 100%. We are getting in the proper component to solve this issue. We will have the issue fixed in the next week or so and then it is back on. I can't thank God enough for having good help. We [thought] we were ready to sell, and [Dustin] continued working and discovered the problem. He just saved all of us from an embarrassing situation." -- Doug Myers on Facebook, January 12; ~15:30 EST (GMT -5)
"We had a little electronic set back today on our black box. We have new components coming, but it will be about a week before we can get them, to fix it." -- Doug Myers, to Sterling, via Facebook, January 12; 18:15 EST (GMT -5)

It looks like we may have a new #1 technology for our Top 5 Exotic Free Energy Technologies listing -- a clean energy technology that has arrived, has a good price point, and is ready to be deployed in fairly large quantities.

On Saturday, January 11, 2014, Doug Myers of Hutchinson, Kansas, USA, announced that his company, MidTech Energy Solutions LLC, has a 2.5 kW "black box" power system available for purchase for $6500, with a lead time of 2-3 weeks.

Having been successful as a solar, wind, and hybrid solar-wind trailer producing and installing company for over a year, on Saturday morning around 8 am Eastern, Doug posted what he termed a "soft release" (instead of press release) about this new product at OffGridQuest.com. He said he would be posting videos in a couple of days after that, once he gets over a cold, so he's not sniffling while talking.

The "soft release" account describes how MidTech struggled with the bureaucrats in Hutchinson, "in bed with the local utility", who fought with him on his wind turbines, then his solar systems, and even tried to stop him on his hybrid trailer, until he pointed out that it is portable and not subject to their jurisdiction. What it forced him to do was to diversify, which led to the discovery that led to the "black box".

"Through the years of intensly creative power design, and his desire to find energy solutions for the masses, Doug has seen many internet ideas that seemed plausible, and began to put some of them to the test. He was excited as he was having successes with a solar and hydrogen heater system that would operate as a boxed unit to heat a home. It was just a couple of weeks ago he was hoping to have a final assembled version to video a demonstration of its functionality. It was then, in the moments of creation and design, that Doug had an epiphany that may change our world beginning today with the way we think about power, and with how we spend our money on power."

I was able to do an interview with Doug on Saturday afternoon, which I'll be posting soon. Also, we have a NEST associate, Chip Paul, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a little more than 3 hours drive away, who plans to drive up and check things out, probably on Tuesday. Doug said he is welcome.

A little smaller than a three-drawered filing cabinet, Doug said the system puts out about as much noise as a window-installed air conditioner, so the garage or utility room might be the best play to situate this in your home. It produces some heat, but not enough to burn you if you touch it, so it can be managed with a small fan without external ventilation.

While Doug says the science behind the technology doesn't violate any accepted laws of physics, I'm guessing that it still fits well into the "exotic free energy" classification.

Drawing from what he told me and what hints I can gather from their Facebook page and website, it seems that the technology involves a hydroxy (HHO, which is exotic) heater modified into a self-looped power system. Doug said that no fuel (including water) is required (to be added/consumed). It doesn't require the sun or the wind. On their website's HHO page, apparently from back in the day when they were still aiming for an HHO heater, they boasted: "Just one of our hydrocells can produce as much energy as 5 Litres Per Minute."

On Facebook, he wrote:

"Our new black box power station will be available in residential, commercial and industrial applications. These stations produce their own power through a patented 3 step process. We used 3 lesser power sources to produce one large power source. They are stackable and can be used to produce large amounts of energy. Our standard residential black box produces 2.5 kw of power." (Doug Myers on Facebook; Jan. 11, 2014; ~9 am EST)

A couple of hours later, he clarified:

"We are not selling magic in a box. It is an electrical and mechanical application that produces energy." (Doug Myers on Facebook; Jan. 11, 2014; ~ 11 am EST)

They're not letting any moss grow under their feet. Just the day prior, he posted this remark at Facebook:

"Very long and trying night, but we are close. Just some finishing touches, and then the black box power station will be complete.

Doug told me that the components that interface with the plugs are already UL-approved, so he didn't have to go through the process of getting UL approval for the entire system.

He said that the simplicity of the design and the high unemployment of adequately skilled workers in town, as well as the several-thousand-square foot facilities they already have as a company, will enable them to quite readily meet the demand for this product. He also plans on entering into licensing to facilitate the roll-out internationally.

He told me the system is available either as a stand-alone "plug and play", with eight 120V receptacles on it (standard US household plug); or for another $2000, you can get the grid-tie package that allows for the system to be hooked to the grid so that the grid serves as the battery bank, giving you extra when you need it, or taking what you are not using.

(Once verified) I would strongly recommend the latter, since it will be the best way to get full use of the 2500 Watts continuously to get the quickest return on your money. Even if your utility/state does not have a net metering set-up that pays you if the net amount at the end of the month is in your favor, as long as they have net metering that allows you to deduct from your bill what you send to the power company, then you'll want to take advantage of that. Getting a battery bank and inverters will add much more than that to your price tag. But if you want to be prepared for extended grid-down situations, then that is what you'll want to get to be able to get the most from the MidTech black box.

Business Opportunities

(Be sure to mention that you were referred by PES, and they will treat you especially well.)

Doug told me that he is willing to sell / ship anywhere in the world. This opens up all kinds of business opportunities for distribution, conversion, installation, servicing. Be sure that the UL-listing that is recognized in many places is also recognized in your region, or you may need to go through a step of certification, which can be expensive and time-consuming.

For those of you living in countries that have different power receptacle sizes/configurations and ratings (e.g. 50 Hz versus US 60 Hz; 230 V versus 120 V, etc.), a business opportunity right away would be to purchase these in bulk and convert them to be compatible in your country, and to pair them with the grid-tie converters approved as well.

Another business opportunity -- anywhere in the world -- would be to install these for people, since a licensed electrician will be require to hook this up to the home panel. However, it is probably the case that the installation is so simple that a local electrician could read a set of one- or two-page instructions and install it -- without any training whatsoever.

That brings up another opportunity: provide a good translation of this material into other languages. Let us know when you have these so we can link up to them (and get a small piece of the action for the referrals).

Invited

Doug invited me to come visit them. I'd love to go, even though my very competent NEST associate, Chip, plans to go early next week. I could go as early as January 17, after I return from the Brillouin / MYT trip. Flights from SLC to ITC are around $800, but by car it's only about 950 miles or 14 hours. What I'd really like to do is see if our audience is willing to raise $6500 so I can buy one and go pick it up. Maybe some others in Utah will want one too, and we can cover part of the cost by their savings in shipping, as well as in referrals for the sales.

Click here if you want to contribute toward this objective (purchase of one of these [after validated] for my home; and trip to go pick it up). This situation is likely to transform up or down, as we've seen in the past. We all hope this one will end well as a growing crescendo.

I'm guessing they are not yet awarded or published and therefore are not yet searchable. -- Sterling
