Scientific documentation and ramifications of global cooling from both human as well as natural causes.
Proponents of this view of "global cooling" claim is that the world is not warming as often alleged, but it has in fact been cooling recently.
For example, on October 31, 2008, Bob Tisdale commented:
- "If the Antarctic is getting warmer, as claimed, than why has the ice cover there increased by far more than that 'lost' at the arctic? If the arctic is loosing ice at an 'increasing rate', than why has this year seen record early ice formation and record extent? If the earth is getting warmer, than why have record low temperatures and record early snowfalls been occurring across the Northern hemisphere this year (and temperatures becoming lower for the last 5 years)?"
We must bear in mind that natural cycles go up and down like a saw-tooth. Though we might be on a short-term downward trend, the more important question or issue is where the longer-term trend is headed.
In bringing attention to this "cooling" camp of thought, we at PES Network do not intend to imply that the need for renewable energy solutions is any less significant. There are an abundant number of good reasons to go renewable, not just to avert "global warming."

In the News
- Global cooling is here - "Global Warming is over, and Global Warming Theory has failed. There is no evidence that CO2 drives world temperatures or any consequent climate change," Imperial College London astrophysicist and long-range forecaster Piers Corbyn wrote British Members of Parliament on Oct. 28. "According to official data in every year since 1998, world temperatures have been colder than that year, yet CO2 has been rising rapidly." That evening, as the House of Commons debated legislation on so-called "global-warming," October snow fell in London for the first time since 1922. (Slashdot) (Seattle PI; Dec. 18, 2008)

According to Eugenio Hackbart, chief meteorologist of the MetSul Weather Center in Brazil, "a brutal cold wave brought record low temperatures, widespread frost, snow, and major energy disruption." In Buenos Aires, it snowed for the first time in 89 years, while in Peru the cold was so intense that hundreds of people died and the government declared a state of emergency in 14 of the country's 24 provinces. - 1300 for when warm summers stopped being dependable in Northern Europe
- 1315 for the rains and Great Famine of 1315-1317
- 1550 for theorized beginning of worldwide glacial expansion
- 1650 for the first climatic minimum
In contrast to its uncertain beginning, there is a consensus that the Little Ice Age ended in the mid-19th century.

- Media Hype on ‘Melting’ Antarctic Ignores Record Ice Growth - Contrary to media hype, the vast majority of Antarctica has cooled over the past 50 years and ice coverage has grown to record levels since satellite monitoring began in the 1979, according to peer-reviewed studies and scientists who study the area. (US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works; March 27, 2008)
- Global Cooling is Here! Evidence for Predicting Global Cooling for the Next Three Decades - In 2008, NASA satellite imagery confirmed that the Pacific Ocean had switched from the warm mode it had been in since 1977 to its cool mode, similar to that of the 1945-1977 global cooling period. The shift strongly suggests that the next several decades will be cooler, not warmer as predicted by the IPCC. (ICECAP; Oct. 30, 2008)
- NOAA: U.S. breaks or ties 115 cold and sets 63 new snowfall records - Of course many of you that live in this weather already know this, but there is an early start to winter this year, not only in the USA, but also in London, where it snowed in October for the first time in over 70 years. - Santa Saved. The North Pole Doesn’t Melt. - Now we’ve reached the end of the melt season. There were an extra 150,000 square miles of ice over last summer’s totals when the ice started to expand again. I suspect that we’ll have another cooler winter and a continuation of ice buildup at the pole, but I doubt you’ll ever hear about it, much like you didn’t hear about 2007 having an unusually small hole in the ozone layer. - Legislation Has Little Impact on Climate Change, Critic Says (Video) - There's really nothing you can do to substantially reduce emissions," he said. "If every nation in the world followed the Kyoto Protocol, the amount of warming that would be prevented is 7-hundredths of a degree Celsius. ... We have no idea how to reduce emissions - these amounts that are being talked about in bills like Lieberman-Warner, 70 percent reductions in 42 years? Give me a break." (CNSNews; June 1, 2008)

Government & Politics
- The fact that the GW discussion is not about science, reasoning, evidence, and deliberation but rather about promoting governmental control, funding for environmentalist programs, vilifying the West and the United States, and conducting guerilla warfare against capitalism. Leftists believe "progress," "modernity," and science led directly to the horrific warfare in the 20th century, when actually it is how many used this technology that was the problem. Irrational fervent nationalism, irrational drives to "unite" people under socialism, fascism, or communism led to the deaths of millions. Science was "hijacked" by these irrational ideologues the way terrorists hijack the Quran to kill "infidels." The point is, leftists don't respect science or reasoning per se, but they cherry-pick it as a means to their own dubious ends. Since leftists don't respect science or rational discussion, there is no reason to respect them when they attempt to commandeer science for their own radical and foolish goals. Just ignore them. It will be so sweet and lovely when these maniacs are completely discredited in a few years." reasonsjester on 2/27/2008 6:49:23 PM

Regarding CO2 -
- "This is about abstract computer modeling being falsely elevated to the level of science and then presented as if it were science. Modeling produces objective computer generated conclusions based upon input assumptions and processing. In order for models to be approximately predictive, the assumptions must be realistic and work backward as well as forward. In most complex cases, modeling is GIGO. GIGO is their real value; eliminating hypothetical possibilities.
- "Politics operates on GIGO propaganda - secondary causation not on first principles. Science or first principles do not affect government decisions in democracies. When a politically correct model gives the politicians an advantage to manipulate politically correct voters in an election year, democracy becomes extremely unpredictable." Francis Manns, Ph.D., P.Geo. (Ontario) 323 Blantyre Avenue Toronto, ON M1N 2S6 Canada
"This (CLimate ChANgE) is nothing more than a scheme to raise TAXES (cap & trade) and INCREASE government power." Posted by: A&P | Jul 5, 2008 7:42:32 AM
CO2 Not the Enemy
- "There is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth." Global Warming Petition Project
(CO2 is the "Breath of Life" for the Plant Kingdom). What happens when plants can't get their daily dose of CO2? They die.
- Carbon Dioxide: A Satanic Gas? - These findings lead inescapably to the conclusion Carbon Dioxide is not a "pollutant," and plausibly argue that it is a net benefit. ("Subcommittee on National Economic Growth, Natural Resources and Regulatory Affairs U.S. House of Representatives"; Oct, 6,1999)
- Carbon dioxide: they call it pollution, we call it life!" - Discusses fossil fuel pollution as source of increased atmospheric CO2. (Weather Underground; 2005)
- "Carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere and helps to maintain the earth at a temperature suitable for life - the principal greenhouse gas is water vapour. Carbon dioxide is essential to the growth of all plants. Without it plants could not grow and all animal life would die. In no way is this gas a pollutant. To call it one is misleading.
- "Calling carbon dioxide a pollutant is a political statement, not a scientific one. Behind the politics is the claim that the small observed global warming trend is due to the burning of fossil fuels rather than being of natural origin." Gerald E. Marsh, Chicago, IL 60615, US
CO2 is plant fertilizer. If carbon dioxide levels drop below 200 parts per million, things stop growing.
- "The rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, although miniscule relative to other gasses like water vapor, is not the CAUSE of warming, but the EFFECT of warming. To illustrate this it in layman's terms, bring a bottle of Coke close to the point of freezing. Open it. Very little carbon dioxide escapes (its dissolved in the water). Take another bottle and warm it to 150 degrees F. Then open it. You get a jet of water because carbon dioxide is escaping.
- "Large bodies of water act the same over decades or centuries, absorbing and releasing carbon dioxide in a delayed synchronization with changes in global temperature: lakes, oceans, calderas. First the temperature rises, then these bodies of water release the carbon dioxide. When global temperatures drop, carbon dioxide follows and is reabsorbed into water." ronjamin on 2/27/2008 11:51:55 AM

Remedies
Educate people with scientific fact, instead of political correctness.
Mitigate soot, reducing the pollution in the air and we will breath easier.

- Global Warming Petition Project - The purpose of the Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climatological damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.
