Humdinger's Wind Belt - Invented by Shawn Frayne, the Windbelt is a taut membrane fitted with a pair of magnets that oscillate between coils. Designed for low wind speeds and budgets, the device is 10x to 30x times more efficient than the best microturbines, and its cost is proportionately small.

Matteran Energy produces electricity and refrigeration from near ambient heat - An experimental small scale power plant is producing electricity and refrigeration temperatures fueled simply by the heat in warm water - typically 150 degrees Fahrenheit. The device would find favor in isolated communities where conventional power sources are not available.

The tale of a solar cell made with human hair - Despite the heavy skepticism, after hearing of a group of teenage students from Nepal who claim to have replaced expensive doped silicon with human hair to produce a solar cell capable of generating 18W of electricity, curiosity got the better of Gizmag's Paul Ridden, who contacted the inventor to find out more. Balkee Tide and Wave Electricity Generator - Raj Balkee of Mauritius, has invented an energy conversion device that uses a floating buoy to advance a unidirectional generator, harnessing the up-and-down motion of waves and tide. Steven E. Jones Solar Funnel for Cooking - Prof. Steven E. Jones (of 9/11-demolition fame) presents a method for building a cooking device that is safe and low-cost, easy to make, yet very effective in capturing the sun's energy for cooking and for pasteurizing water. Requires cardboard, tin foil, black paint, and a mason jar.

Acoustic Stove, Fridge, Generator Could Aid Third World - The "Stove for Cooking, Refrigeration and Electricity," or SCORE, could help improve the health and quality of life for the two billion or so people in the world who cook over open fires. The SCORE thermoacoustics technology promoted by a multi-institutional project converts heated gas into sound waves which can be used to cook, cool, and/or generate electricity.

Black carbon soot mitigation may be rapid piece of solution - Black carbon soot emissions (much from third world cookstoves) may cause up to 18% of global warming, and 50% of arctic warming, but are relatively easy to mitigate with donations of new stoves to third world countries. Llamadas Pedaleadas - bike system is made of old parts such as a car alternator, car battery and computer battery backup UPS to convert the electricty generated into 110V. Electricity is generated by pedaling from location to location or in one place by dropping a kick stand to elevate the back tire. The electricity is stored in a car battery which takes ten minutes of pedaling for one hour of use.
