- Utah leading CO2 Sequestration - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) plans to spend $67 million over the next decade on a technology solution for climate change that will be tested in Utah. Gasoline from carbon dioxide is not science fiction - Researchers from UMCS in Poland are teaming up with Wrotkow Power of Lublin to test their method of converting CO2 emissions from the power plant into low-cost, high-octane fuel, using a chemical process that resembles part of the photosynthesis cycle. - Cement from CO2: A Concrete Cure for Global Warming? - While Calera's process of making calcium carbonate cement wouldn't eliminate all CO2 emissions, it would reverse that equation. "For every ton of cement we make, we are sequestering half a ton of CO2," says crystallographer Brent Constantz, founder of Calera. "We probably have the best carbon capture and storage technique there is by a long shot." (Scientific American; August 7, 2008)

New Reactor Uses Sunlight to Turn Water and Carbon Dioxide Into Fuel - Scientists at Sandia National Labs, have figured out a way to "reverse-combust" CO2 back into fuel. They recently demonstrated a working prototype of their "Sunshine to Petrol" machine that converts waste CO2 to carbon monoxide, and then syngas, consuming nothing but solar energy.
