Data from zanadu's Replication of John Bedini's Simplified 'School Girl' Motor and Battery Energizer


Summary of Experiment and Findings 

Early May 2005

Four embodiments so far, ranging from the first SG-classic version with aluminum alloy bicycle wheel and coil, to a riff on a Tibetan Prayer Wheel.

From version to version, I have reduced the number of magnets, increased guage of connector-wires & coil winds, decreased wheel weight & diameter, and increased RPM progressively. The latest is only four of the larger recommended ferrite magnets (plenty strong) housed in sandwiched plywood wheel, and spins extremely fast (I still need to source an RPM monitor). Just purchased an ancient analog 'scope but have not yet figured out how to measure the +/-200v. voltage spike reported & displayed by other similar replications on this site.

Apologies that my battery data is sparse due to sharing confined living space with two small ones, circumstances that have necessitated late night runs, and then almost complete disassembly & safe storage during daylight hours. In order to address this constraint, I'm working on installing the latest version on top of my dresser, with the batteries aligned longitudinally along the rear of the back panel, so that I can easily charge, rotate, test, discharge, etc. and keep the assembled unit intact and out of reach of small humans, in order to gather such data on a far more consistent basis, out of reach & endangerment of the children.

That said, I have successfully kept not only the original four 12v batteries at charge, rotating as needed, but also added a dead Yuasa motorcycle 12v battery into the system and now it, too, is consistently charged (as measured with a MM). I have noted the same general decrease Sterling did, but via the Bedini_Monopole newsgroup have come to understand more about the importance of impedence, and amps-out. With the new setup, I plan to add regular, scheduled discharge testing with the graphing Powerwerx computer battery analyzer. It draws down the voltage at whatever rate and to whatever level you preset (don't make a mistake with the rate setting--I set my first run too high and fried a set of test-lead wires almost instantly before I could cancel).

Most significant recent learning was--while attempting to demonstrate the below method of feeling the scalar South to someone else, with one magnet in my hand, I discovered that I could actually induce wheel-spin from a standstill, and then progressively increase it somewhat (with N-stll facing-N but "pushing" the wheel vs. the scalar South). Takes more powerful magnets to feel it, and a wheel with almost no rotation resistance. Awesome. Comment from the other person, after he repeated what I had just done, went something like: "I just learned more in two minutes of direct sensation of EM forcelines than I did from several semesters of working out EM equations for my mechanical engineering degree."

Experimental Set-up Overview

First version: Classic SG setup, by the numbers. Something like 20 of the Radio Shack magnets around the aluminum bicycle wheel. Obviously I didn't get this circuit right or the neon lamp wouldn't have flickered all night. Small coil/wheel gap as recommended.

Second version: Same wheel, however I shortened up all connecting wires, and increased wire guage, and copied Sterling's breadboard setup with several options for resistor ratings, and two 25K pots and a lightbulb (not shown). Observed how change in resistence increases or decreases rotation rate. Still small coil/wheel gap.

Third version: lower-weight, three-spoke BMX wheel, with magnets doubled-up. Again shortened up all connecting wires, and increased wire guage. Redid the SG circuit completely with new components, beefing up the N4007s to five (for the additional Yuasa) and adding a higher quality 1K pot w. something like 47ohm resistor. Completely fried my muy sano setup by accidently dropping a battery lead & short-circuiting the box. Rewired it with a 100ohm resistor, same 1K pot and other components. Greatly increased RPM, but only at increased coil/wheel gap which I theorize might be due to the increase in magnet power due to doubling them up, such that the scalar South also increased in power such that the increased gap "felt" better. Anyone else developing a gut-level sense of what the system "prefers" in terms of fine-tuning adjustments as variables are changed?

Fourth version: changes are mostly to the form, and the wheel diameter, weight & number of magnets. The four magnets are about the size of the previous magents when doubled-up, and are ensconced within a sandwiched-plywood assembly, with vaneer end-caps. Rollerblade bearings in the wheel and in the front & rear panels--part of what I believe allows free-spinning high RPM.

Discussion

Initial Observations

The fact that I--a completely non-technical, right-brained refugee from the liberal arts, was able to assemble & successfully operate the SG leads me to the hopeful observation that a significant percentage of the world (certainly at least several persons in any given locale) should easily handle such a replication.

Moment of dancing down the hallway at 1:30 AM, when it first spun up. Everyone else asleep, and I'm moonwalking backwards in my socks on the wood floor, to check if its still going. Looking over my shoulder: Still going! Resume geek superiority dance... Of course, a well-meaning, celebratory, redemptive & transformative superiority dance. But still: Man, do we got the juice, or what? Like singing in the shower, some things are best done in private, sparing others the artistically questionable but enthusiastic display of your unbearable lightness of being.

PL: If Sterling's replication is not science, but mere journalism, than what I'm doing is like the bazooka bubblegum wrapper version of science. But the beauty of SG is, I get the essentials regardless. I don't have to be a full-on researcher to understand, directly, not only THAT this stuff is real, it works, but more importantly, to apprehend HOW.

Note that my five-year-old caught the gist of how this worked before I did: "Oh daddy, I get it, each magnet says to the coil, "Now me!" "Now me!" "Now me!" It was only after I discovered the "How to directly feel the scalar South" method that I realized how utterly right he was. Beginner's mind...

The physical sensation of feeling the scalar South did lead me to wonder: does this mean that the magnetic field is quasi- independent of the physical magnet itself, and thus capable of rotating in space, or if there is some other (possibly hydraulic?) metaphor for understanding the switch from low-revs= North repels North to rotation increase to X rate=Scalar South attracts North.

Definitely was tempting to stray/cut corners on the materials & design. But I was kept on track by JB's stern warning that this is a "paint-by-numbers" project, and if you don't follow the steps, you will likely fail to get the full picture (or worse).

Doing the SG replication, I now realize, was the best choice I could have made with regard to understanding--the dictum from racing comes to mind here: "Sometimes you have to go slow to go fast." I had to stop reading about the specific topic of free energy for several weeks, in order to learn some basics (how to solder without burning holes in your carpet...) and to gather & assemble the basic materials. That said, I feel that those who begin this process without a formal background in classical sciences or trade lore may be at a slight advantage in the sense of not having to unlearn so much doctrine before being able to open to the possibility of new models & metaphors. I strongly recommend a similar effort to anyone seeking to understand scalar, energy from the vacuum, whatever vocabulary you care to use to describe any one of the manifestations of Abundant Energy listed here and on similar sites. Careful, the process of discovery is addictive: one look at M. Naudin's[1] site will convince if you doubt.

Re-reading some of the JB web pages, and PL's Free Energy Secrets book: vast areas make sense that didn't before doing the SG. Stone simple principles, almost all of it, once you gain the proper perspective. Makes one also empathize with the more than occasional impatience & frustration of researchers who deal with endless questions and heckling by armchair math whizards & theoreticians who won't get off their duffs and just build one.

That, and I'm awash with deepening respect, wonder & gratitude with regard to the phenomenon itself and with respect to those irrepressible souls & minds who have travelled and marked these paths before us, sacrificing much or all so that we may walk less hindered.

What struck me most poignantly, once I had assembled it, was how directly the SG resembles Gandhi's[2] spinning wheel,[3] in both form and declarative spirit--an echo & amplification of that elegant statement of independence, populism, and abundant self-sufficiency.

Protocol and Materials

First Version

  • Almost all materials as JB SG listed.
  • Was confused which specific welding rod to purchase, so purchased two different boxes--do the weld-ratings matter, or is it ok regardless of what the flux is rated for? I picked the one out of two with the flux that seemed more dense/hard and it worked fine. (1/8" "Superweld" 6013 rated for 80-120 Amps)
  • Non-magnetic front bicycle wheel, spokes
  • Rubber-band & duct tape keeps magnets aligned & suborbital
  • 12v batteries (4, new)
  • Platform a combination of wood, plastic, and stainless-steel screws, bolts, etc. in order to keep other magnetic field influence to minimum.
  • Prefer visual vs. numeric, so each battery is designated with a color, and top is painted as such.
  • Attempted as close to 1/8-inch gap between wheel magnets & coil as possible. Slight variation in thickness of rubber-band/tape configuration meant having to back off slightly from that ideal once rhythmic friction at spin was noted. Very little effect on speed, however. Interesting.
  • No RPM monitor; using bicycle spedometer to compare relative speeds. Recorded speed (set for actual--as though still riding the bicycle) in Kilometers. Also tells distance travelled!
  • Attempting to make connections as short as possible; other minor tweaking based on hints & guidance posted by others and by JB/PL as possible.
  • Next goal is soldered circuit board, and several weeks of run time with data.

Fourth Version

Much time has passed; I'm now working on my fourth SG version. Fried more than one circuit board, but reducing size of wheel to a laminated plywood four-magnet version which spins far faster than the larger bicycle-wheel variety. Continuing to reduce impedence by increasing wire guage for as many connections as possible, and wound a new coil of heavier guage magnet wire as well. Have begun using the Mountain CBA graphing battery anylizer to draw down the battery charges.

The painted & collaged "illumination" is inspired by those depicted (including DePalma, Lindemann, Bedini, Tesla, & Tewari) and is a tribute to & thanks for all of their efforts, sacrifice and extraordinary teaching.

I've purchased an aluminum blank wheel (seeking proper shaft, bearings, and somewhere to get it lathed) and intend to move on at some point to a muliple-coil assy as my understanding & comfort with the circuits increases.

Some ponderings

What does a high-rpm Tesla disc-turbine analogue look like if it were designed it to be spun up by a scalar magnetic fields instead of laminar molecular flow? What would be the implied ideal specs/dimensions/ materials?

Does the Scalar South actually rotate in space, or more likely, is the magnetic field really "not the magnet" but actually something more like an envelope? What is the gradient 3-D equivalent of the compass-rose for scalar magnetic field theory if magnets are really not at all bi-polar, but are more like large shimmering soap bubbles, deforming and conforming, joining and separating, as their "skins" meet & interact with other fields? North, South, East, West, North-North-East, South-South-West, etc.? And even that is still 2-D...
