Latest: Directory:Solar / Directory:Electrical Grid / Directory:U.S. Government and Energy > Power Companies' objective: Remedy the unintended subsidy of solar customers by residential customers - Residential solar customers using net-metering, pay much less for their electricity but they use the grid even more than regular residential customers, who end up picking up the infrastructure costs, which is a subsidy. Remedy: a low ~$4.25/month facilities charge for net-metering customers. (PESN July 22, 2015)

It's just too bad his plan relies almost entirely on fossil fuels and largely ignores the solid promise of clean energy. (RenewableEnergyWorld August 24, 2012)

And elsewhere, there's much heavier state support. In 2009, Exxon alone spent more money lobbying US Congress than the entire clean energy sector combined. (TreeHugger December 1, 2010)

'Green Jobs Czar' Resigns Amid Furor - President Barack Obama's environmental adviser Van Jones, who became embroiled in a controversy over past inflammatory statements, has resigned his White House job after what he calls a "vicious smear campaign against me." Solar Industry: No Breakthroughs Needed - In a recent conference in D.C., solar industry leaders agreed that the U.S. federal government has a misplaced emphasis on research into futuristic new technologies, rather than support for scaling up existing ones, pointing out that new technologies will take decades to come to market. One company, First Solar, has already brought the cost of solar power to under $1 per watt. (MIT Technology Review August 3, 2009)

Stimulus Appears to Be Sparking Alt-Energy Revival - There are signs that the federal stimulus might be pumping a little life into the alternative-energy industry. Financiers and law firms specializing in renewable energy say they see growing interest in reviving moribund projects and breaking ground on new deals. (TruthOut March 24, 2009)

Obama’s Stumble: Wind Power - The US will “double the amount of energy that comes from renewable sources by the end of my first term." Pres Obama should know that that’s not possible. The cost of these extraordinarily expensive electricity (five to ten times more than coal or nuclear) projects is enormous, even on the scale of the anticipated deficit spending. Clean Energy Aspects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - US President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, includes US $16.8 billion for the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) -- a nearly tenfold increase from 2008. Bush Years: 8 in 8 Minutes (video) - Kieth Olbermann of MSNBC gives a scathing recital of George Bush's performance, but doesn't take into consideration the global corporatist/Fascist cabal that is behind him and has pulled his strings from day one. The Beast is still among us, although they will rule now from the shadows of the Democratic party. (Truthout Jan. 16, 2009)

House Passes Energy Bill, Lifts Offshore Oil Ban - Democrats referred to HR 6899 "Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act" as a compromise bill. Their priorities included the repeal of tax benefits for oil companies -- rechanneling that money to foster renewable energy efforts. The bill also mandates that, by 2020, utility companies get at least 15 percent of their energy from renewable sources. (Courant Sept. 16, 2008)
