The BriTek Rubber and Tire BERW© is a complete re-imagining of a wheel that is safer, more efficient and still maintains an incredible sense of style and can be bolted onto any vehicle on the road today.

The main and limiting downside is its expense at nearly $1000 per wheel.

:"The auto industry is one of the slowest responding environments for new tech.. Our plan is to keep a low profile while we continue to streamline and refine the ERW. ERW is available for R+D only, no consumer sales." -- Brian Russell, Dec. 17, 2008

How it Works

:"The physics behind the ERW is similar to that of a garage door. Even though a garage door weighs several hundred pounds, when it is sprung by the use of springs, it becomes de-weighted. So when you lift it, it only feels like it weighs a few pounds. In summary, an object that is sprung requires dramatically less energy to move than an unsprung object. In addition to the use of springs, an object can be sprung by stretching rubber. Scientists call this “Elastic Potential Energy.” At the center of the ERW is a layer of rubber. Through the use of adjustable rods, the rubber is stretched which stores elastic potential energy in the wheel, turning the ERW into a 360-degree slingshot that retains energy (hence the term “Energy Return Wheel”). When the ERW is attached to an object, that object becomes sprung. Just like a garage door that is sprung, the attached object becomes de-weighted and requires dramatically less energy to move than an unsprung object. Less energy to move means an increase in fuel efficiency."

The ERW© is more than simply a re-design of the wheels and tires we have been using for over a hundred years. Rather, it is a complete re-imagining of what a wheel could, should be. By starting from scratch we were able to discard any preconceptions and create a wheel that is safer, more efficient and still maintains an incredible sense of style. We can bolt this innovation onto any vehicle on the road today and instantly make the world a greener place to live! (YouTube December 11, 2008)

Advantages

Will never go flat.

Brake faster.

Handles better.

More efficient traveling down the road.

Applications

Vehicles that need tires.

Independent Testing

Patents

Several patents already issued in the United States and patents pending internationally.

U.S. Pat.6701985 B2- filed 02 issued 04, Energy Return Wheel Systems and Methods. Brian A. Russell

Abstract:

The present invention provides exemplary vehicle wheel assemblies for use with a wide range of wheeled vehicles and apparatus. In one embodiment, a wheel assembly (100) includes first and second rim portions (210, 212) having edges (220, 222). The wheel assembly includes a cartridge disposed in a trough portion between the rim edges. The cartridge includes a chamber portion (300) having a plurality of spaced protrusions (310), a resilient member (400) disposed over the plurality of spaced protrusions, an actuator (500) disposed over the resilient layer, and a traction layer (600) disposed over the actuator. The actuator is adapted to compress the resilient layer at least partially into the chamber portion when the wheel assembly is loaded with a weight. In this manner, the wheel assembly is capable of providing energy return to the wheel assembly during rotation thereof. Diagram

Abstract:

The present invention provides exemplary wheel assemblies for use with a wide range of wheeled vehicles and apparatus. In one embodiment, a wheel assembly (800) includes a rim (810) having edges (816, 818). The wheel assembly includes a plurality of protrusions 822 disposed in a trough portion (820) between the rim edges. A resilient member (830) is disposed over the spaced protrusions, and an actuator (850) is disposed over the resilient layer. The actuator is adapted to at least partially compress the resilient layer between the spaced protrusions when the wheel assembly is loaded with a weight. In this manner, the wheel assembly is capable of providing energy return to the wheel assembly during rotation thereof. Diagram

Current filings include the utilization of super nano rubbers in resilient layer and traction layers alike.
