Congress:Action - A listing of active items and pending items for Congress members.

Specific Tasks

Make sure that the people signed up on the various NEC email lists are present members of the NEC, and that each member have only one profile signed up. If they have two profiles, ask them which they wish to keep, then delete the other.

IT: Build the database computation infrastructure to support the assessment, tabulation, and reporting of technology reviews by the Congress.

Establish a full set of bylaws for Congress operations.

Ongoing Tasks

Review the NEC TechRev polls to give your assessement of the various energy technologies listed there.

Occasionally update your vote on any technology for which your assessment has changed, up or down. (A tally is tabulated at the end of each month.)

Adopt at least one of the Congress:Top 100 Technologies -- RD energy technologies, becoming the NEC Specialist. See explanation of this task.

Identify promising technologies for which validation is lacking, and help organize NEC validation.

Become familiar with the wiki language so you can help build, edit, update PESWiki pages pertinent to the Congress.

Help build a PESWiki feature page for each of the Congress:Top 100 Technologies -- RD Energy Technologies.

Help keep the existing feature pages up-to-date.

Help build and maintain profile pages for NEC members.

Pages Needing to be Built

Congress:Bylaws - partially completed

Congress:Operation - Let's implement the relevant operational procedures here

Congress:Models of Operation - Deriving operational guidelines based on the operational models of other professional scientific organizations such as IEEE

Getting Started

These are tasks that each congress member needs to accomplish. You can delegate, or others can volunteer to do these on your behalf, but they need to be done. If you are not a member, and are interested in joining, go Congress:Join.

Subscribe to the three primary email lists, and make sure your Yahoo!Groups ID is associated with each account so you can access the poll features and access messages through the web:

NE_Congress - newsletter (1/day or less)

NEC-Forum - general discussion

NEC-TechRev - general matters regarding technology review

(specific lists will be created to discuss specific technologies the Congress decides to review)

(committees will have a specific list for committee matters)

Select at least one Congress:Committees on which to serve (okay to serve on more than one)

Get a PESWiki username ("Create an account or log in" [link found at the top of each PESWiki page])

Let Sterling know your username so he can give you sysop access to the site so you can edit the Congress pages.

Build a profile page for the public (see Congress:Member:Sterling D. Allan)

Link to your profile page from your membership listing on the Congress:Members page. (See There was an error working with the wiki: Code[1] below)

Required Activities for Continued Membership

'APPROVED': The following was approved by the New Energy Congress on Nov. 10, 2005.

Participate in at least 2/3 of the major votes.

Attend a retreat at least once every two years (held semiannually). (We intend to be able to help with at least some individuals' travel expenses, so that cost will not be a legitimate excuse for non-attendance.)

Review at least 1/4 of the finalist technologies each year (e.g. could be 1/8 for one set and 3/8 for the second set per year). (Remember, you can give a "0" personal confidence level in providing answers for which you have no knowledge or experience, and this is acceptible.)

If you know of a highly promising technology, which the Congress does not yet have on its roster of technologies to review, then submit it for review. (If the technology is a proprietary technology, and you do not have permission to mention it even by code name, then this obligation is waived.)

Very active members will, of course, do much more than this.

Misc.

Instructions for creating profile page

# Click on your username at the top of the page (link appears after you log in). This will take you to your user page, and it will be empty unless you or someone else has entered content there.

# Click "edit" at the top of the page, and enter content. Here is a Congress:Member:Sterling D. Allan profile page. Include:

# your name and contact info (use "{at}" instead of @ in email address to avoid spambots harvesting your address)

# date of commencement as congress member

# name of committee(s) on which you serve, indicating chairmanship if pertinent

# brief bio

# links to pertinent websites your run or profile pages found elsewhere

# comments about your aspirations or concerns for congressional pursuits

Instructions for linking to your profile page

# Note the Wiki URL of your profile page (everything following "peswiki.com/energy/"), e.g. "User:Silverthunder" (is Sterling's user profile page)

# Go to the spot on the target page (such as the Congress:Members) where you want to insert a link to your profile page

# Look for the closest red "edit" link to the upper left of the section where you want to insert your link, and click "edit". You have now opened an editable screen.

# Place your cursor where you wish to insert the link

# The format for the link will be Your Name (what precedes the "|" in the square brackets is the URL, and what follows it is the text that will be hyperlinked)

you're done
